Default storm preparations

Here on the East coast we're being told to be ready for "Frankenstorm" starting Sunday night. With wind, rain, and trees still carrying leaves the expectation is that there will be some lengthy power outages. I've got gas for the generator and some liquid supplies for me.

What do you all cook in expectation of things like this? I figure it calls for comfort food and for Monday am planning to have some boneless spareribs (being boneless may be a sacrilege but the price was right) with roasted root vegetables and apple cake for dessert, with vanilla ice cream if the kids don't find where I hid it in the freezer.

After some testing, I can say that the liquid supplies will do nicely! I'm also having a small celebration tonight because I've had a full week's work (first time in months), as a contractor with my previous employer, with the prospect of two or more weeks. It's not what I would like to do but it's work, and it's gratifying that the old man could keep up with the young pup and also impress him with layout skills. I feel bad for this boy, though. By his own admission he's not the sharpest knife in the drawer and I found that true, but he doesn't chatter/talk all day long and will jump on whatever you point him at. They won't use him next week and possibly never again. I know the kind of barriers I'm up against---even with many years in the trade---and can't imagine how it must feel to be in the 20's and face a stone wall. Just glad I don't have to make the decision; I'd probably bring him home and feed him.

I would bake some chocolate rum cake.
Looks like we are going to get it too.

Very unusual in these parts.
Take care Bill.

We've made it so far (Tuesday 8:15 am) with no outage and no damage that I can see. Still some rain and wind around 40 mph, a chance of wet snow. We're very fortunate compared to a lot of other places. Rob, how are you doing up there?

You were very fortunate.
Great to hear.
Up here, it looks like Toronto got hit harder than the rest of us.
Just lots and lots of rain in the Valley.
